Tykes & Teens CEO to Retire after 25 Years

Jeffrey Shearer, ACSW, CAP, LCSW will retire from his position as CEO of Tykes & Teens in May 2020. MCLMMedia Pro Social Media Marketing on the Treasure Coast

Stuart, Fl- January 29, 2020- Jeff Shearer, LCSW, founder and Chief Executive Officer of one of the Treasure Coast’s most impactful non-profit organizations, has announced his retirement. Shearer created Tykes & Teens in 1995 as a young social worker determined to ensure that children and families in need could access high quality mental health services. Twenty five years later, he leaves behind a legacy of more than 50,000 children and adolescents served, a network of highly trained psychotherapists, and a framework of mental health counseling, training and support services that has improved the health and well-being of our community beyond measure.

“Jeff has been a pioneer in the children’s mental health arena for decades.  His deep expertise and commitment to ensuring access to best in class mental wellness services to the children and families in the region has profoundly impacted countless lives,” said Elizabeth Barbella, President and CEO of the Community Foundation Martin St. Lucie. “He has created a world class organization supported by a strong team of professionals. His dedication has ensured Tykes and Teens’ success far into the future.”

Shearer plans to pursue his doctorate, and to expand upon his work in academia where he can continue to impact the mental health and social work field as a professor. Shearer will remain in his position as CEO of Tykes & Teens through May, and will consult as needed to successfully transition the organization’s leadership.

“I thank Jeff for his tremendous service to the four county area, and for creating an outstanding organization and management team that will continue to provide clients, funders and the community at large with vital services and exceptional outcomes,” said Shields McManus, President of the Board at Tykes & Teens. “We congratulate Jeff and wish him well as he takes this next step in his journey.”
